The power of a raw voice, simple chords and an acoustic guitar in evoking memories and place will never be lost on me. Throw in a bearded man whose guitar becomes an extension of splendour and I am sold. Weak at the knees. Straight to repeat. Owned.

Bon Iver secured my ears with ‘Skinny Love’ just as husband-Ben and I pulled away from the Apple Isle in our bright yellow ‘Julie’ campervan. Not yet released in single form, we only made it to Geelong before purchasing some form of ‘Coastal Mix’ CD to get that one track. Repeat ensued.

As such, ‘Skinny Love’ takes me straight back to that hot summer with its long road days, frequent breakdowns, a fragile new love and fresh beginnings. Four years later married and minus a fraught camper, we finally get to see the Justin Vernon man himself at the Sydney Opera House on Sunday eve.

I am predicting ‘this is amazing’ overwhelmed tears.
